Detent (spring loaded) pins have springs inside the shaft of the pin that are used the push out two extruding ball bearings. These ball bearings, when extruding lock into a hole in the pin they are being used with. These pins simply require a pull to release them, but lock firmly in place when inserted in to the locked position.
