Bearings & Power Transmission: Bearings
Linear and rotary bearings are employed to control friction between moving parts. Learn about the many types of plain and rotary bearings, bearing nomenclature, lubrication and bearing components. Figure 8 includes ANSI/ABMA bearing dimension codes. Table 19 compares grease and oil lubricating methods and Table 23 lists Kinemitic Value for common lubricants and fluids, including beer, while Table 38 lists cam follower bearing types. The guide includes procedures for calculating plain bearing PV for sleeve bearings and the minimum bearing lubricant viscosity for roller bearing lubricants. Equation 2 calculates maximum bearing speed. Table 42 lists several documents that contain bearing standards, equations, charts, tables and other application tools, far beyond the scope of this guide.
