Meltblown Technologies | Company Overview

Liquid spills in industrial and domestic environments aren't without their dangers, especially considering the potential health hazards they can cause. These can be as harmless as a spilled glass of water, but some spills involve toxic, explosive, flammable, or corrosive substances, leading to potentially adverse reactions if proper containment measures aren't employed.

Luckily, Meltblown Technologies offers numerous solutions to spills and leaks in the form of products that help spill containment and control. In today's article, we'll discuss MBT and its product lines.

Meltblown Technologies Company Overview

MBT, short for Meltblown Technologies, LLC., is a company based in Sandersville, Georgia, that produces polypropylene oil and chemical sorbents (materials that absorb liquids). The company's core products include absorbent pads and rolls, though the company offers a complete line of accessories, such as absorbent socks, booms, pillows, and drip pans, all of which are made by reprocessing the company's waste.

To meet the demand for accessory sorbents, Meltblown Technologies also purchases large amounts of post-industrial waste from other manufacturers, processing it into sorbents. As a result, the company's spill control products are mostly used in machine shops, assembly factories, power stations, airports, retention ponds, or even wherever there's a possibility of spillage.

Its customers are also safety environmental, industrial, and janitorial distributors, expanding its sales network across the globe.

Meltblown Technologies Industrial Absorbents

MBT offers a wide variety of different adsorbents suitable for various applications. These are mostly assorted by color, application, and absorption.

  • Gray absorbents are universal and absorb water, oils, coolants, and solvents
  • White or blue products are oil-only products that absorb oils and oil-based liquids and turpentine
  • Yellow or green hazmat absorb aggressive and corrosive chemicals and unknown liquids
  • Pads, rolls, socks, and pillows are best suited for wiping, dripping, or foot traffic areas
  • Mats and rugs are designed for barrier-backed or heavy-duty traffic areas
  • Spill containment and spill kits are mostly used for cleaning emergency spills

Here's a basic breakdown of products offered by Meltblown Technologies

Pads

Pads are mostly used in indoor applications, ranging from universal and oil-only absorbents to hazmat products that absorb dangerous chemicals. Gray Fine Fiber Universal absorbents pads are the company's best-selling general-purpose product, made of fine fiber melt-blown polypropylene with super-absorbent fibers that resemble tissue paper.

All the thin layers are thermally bonded to each side of the coarse-fiber polypropylene, allowing fast absorption sheen removal and adequate gripping of the cement floor. These mostly come as dimpled heavyweight and medium-weight pads though they are also available in rolls.

Mats

Absorbent mats are heavyweight pads designed for indoor and outdoor applications and are usually supplied in bale pallets.  For example, the XSMB mats absorb oils, solvents, and water simultaneously. These mats are fantastic for indoor use and won't move when applied to clean surfaces due to the adhesive backing, which helps hold the mat in place.

These are suitable for several application types, as they can withstand both foot- and heavyweight traffic, making them perfect for manufacturing plants, machine shops, car dealerships, and restaurants.

However, the MBT Railroad Track Mats are primarily used for refueling locomotives, but they're also suitable for other applications as well. They come in several widths, with a UV-resistant top layer, highly absorbent center layer, and isolating bottom layer that prevents hydrocarbon-based fluids from passing through. The RTMs absorb only oils and will not absorb water.

Rolls

Most absorbent products offered by Meltblown Technologies, such as GFMF pads and XSMB mats, come in massive rolls. For example, the rolls of GFMF usually feature 15" x 150' or 30" x 150' of material, while the latter comes in smaller and bigger rolls, measuring 18" or 36" in width and 50' or 100' in length.

The RTMs (Railroad Track Mats) come exclusively in rolls, measuring 19", 29", and 57" width, and 80' length. All rolls can be bought in bulk on pallets, ranging from 16-60 rolls per pallet, depending on the type and dimensions of the product.

Socks

Meltblown Technology socks are primarily used for all kinds of spills. For example, hazmat socks are mostly used to prevent toxic chemicals in storage areas, general cellulose socks are used to protect drains and walkways, and oil-only socks skim the oils off the water.

Industrial absorbent socks are fantastic for absorbing and cleaning up chemical and oil spills and seepage around machine and equipment bases. They'll also absorb coolant liquids, solvents, and aggressive chemicals, depending on the type. The best part about MBT socks is that they're wringable, so you can dispose of the collected liquid and reuse them a few more times.

Pillows

Meltblown Technologies absorbent pillows can be placed under constant, steady leaks. These high-capacity sorbents don't require frequent replacements, making them ideal for time-consuming applications like fixing leaks.

These also come in different types depending on the leaking fluid so that you can choose from hazmat, general-purpose, and oil-only absorbers. All three types come in two different dimensions: 18" x 8" x 2" and 18" x 18" x 2".

Meltblown Technologies Spill Kits

MBT Spill Kits are an important component of any spill response strategy, ranging from bagged kits for small spills and container spill kits for medium-sized leaks to overpacks that allow you to tackle massive spills.

Chemical and Hazmat Spill Kits

Container spill kits are best suited for any leaks involving hazardous chemicals, as they come with a wider assortment of absorbents. These come in bucket sizes and 20-gallon and 30-gallon packs, which are equipped with hazmat absorbers suitable for aggressive chemicals.

Oil Spill Kits

Bagged Spill Kits are mostly equipped with universal absorbers, making them perfect for any oil spillage. However, these are best suited for small-to-medium oil spills, ranging from five to 15 gallons of liquid. It's worth noting that they're all perforated, so you won't have to use up the entire kit, just the amount that's needed.

Spill Kits for Trucks

Though only the Compact Bag Truck Spill Kit is marketed for truck spills, another product in the MBT product line is also suited for this application — the SmooshKit. The former is specifically designed for truck use. It has an absorption capacity of 15 gallons. At the same time, the latter is made to solve the problem of storage in constricted space like trucks, albeit at a limited absorption capacity of three to five gallons of liquid.
