Hinges are movable joints that connect two objects while allowing at least one of the objects to pivot. Hinges are used on doors, panels, gates, lids, and any other object in which it is desirable to connect it while allowing it to swing. Free-swinging leaf hinges, also known as butt hinges, offer no resistance and consist of two flat plates joined by a pin through a center barrel. Concealed hinges are not visible from the outside of a door or panel and therefore provide a clean profile and tamper resistance. Bolted inside a door or panel, side hinges are mounted at a 90-degree angle but still allow a 180-degree rotation. Corner hinges have small flanges and are designed to fit into tight corners. On strap hinges, the mounting plate on the door side is much longer than the mounting plate that attaches to the frame. Lift-off hinges easily separate allowing the door or access panel to be removed. Weld-on hinges have two cylindrical pieces joined by an inset pin and are welded to the door and frame.
